On the Thursday before Thanksgiving 1974, something remarkable happened. Responding to Oxfam's call, more than 250,000 people nationwide participated in the first Oxfam America Fast for a World Harvest; they fasted for a day or meal, raising awareness about hunger and donating their food money to Oxfam. So began a national movement to alleviate hunger and poverty in our world. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Oxfam supporters around the country have continued the tradition of taking action against poverty, hunger, and injustice.
Today, when you ACT FAST with Oxfam, you're joining a community of people who believe that our efforts—large or small—can create social change. From hosting Oxfam America Hunger Banquets to volunteering at concerts, from taking action online to attending a community event, there are as many ways to take action as there are people who are willing to help. So now that you're here, the only question is: What will you do?
